Car Loans After Bankruptcy

Filing for bankruptcy is an unfortunate thing to happen and over the last few years several people have filed for bankruptcy. Losing the jobs and an economic crisis was a major let down for several people. However, once you file for a bankruptcy, your credit report goes for a toss, and it does not matter if it has been excellent until then.

After filing for bankruptcy, it takes at least a period of 11 years for recovering your credit score and bringing it back to normal. This can only happen if you are able to establish your credibility again. The only way to establish your credit again with the credit reporting agencies is when you take more loans and show that you have been making regular payments. However, once you have filed for bankruptcy, nobody will be willing to give you loans, and it is becomes a catch 22 situation for several people.

One of the best ways to apply for loans after filing for bankruptcy is through mortgage or second loans. You can pledge something as security and try to get loans. You can make a beginning and it is not impossible. Also, there are ways for people with a poor credit score to get loans.

If you have to avail a car loan after bankruptcy, then the best option for you is to use the car you are purchasing as collateral. You have the option of getting secured loans. So, when you car is pledged, it basically means that the lender has the legal right to repossess the car when you default on the payments. However, as you would be considered a credit risk, be prepared to get a somewhat higher interest rate on your car loan than what is offered to other people.

As car is a necessity, taking a car loan after bankruptcy may not be such a bad idea. However, you would have to wait until your bankruptcy is discharged before applying for the loan.
